CHINATOWN
Nestled in the very heart of Southside, Chinatown has brought the finest Asian cuisines to Birmingham City Centre since the 1960s. What began as a few entrepreneurs developing Ladywell Walk and Hurst Street into a cultural hub, has grown into one of the largest Chinese business regions in the UK – which now stretches the entirety of our district.
Take a stroll around and you will find the city’s best dim sum and tasty roast meats adorning the windows, or pick up a delicious bubble tea and discover everything that the Chinese supermarkets have to offer. And the cuisines to choose from just keep on growing: Japanese, Malaysian, Korean, Vietnamese and much more – there’s nowhere more diverse than Southside.
GAY VILLAGE
What would nightlife in Birmingham be like without the iconic Gay Village? With thousands of visitors partying until sunrise every week, there’s nowhere as vibrant, free-thinking or fun as Southside.
The bars and clubs host hugely popular cabaret and drag evenings, welcoming some of the biggest names in the industry. And, of course, when Pride rolls around each year, the Gay Village welcomes up to 70,000 people over the course of the weekend, making it one of the flagship events in the district every year.
