Update to Southside District warden service
Southside District would like to share an important update regarding our Warden Service.
From 1st April 2026, the Southside District warden service has moved to a core service model. This reflects the service level that is financially sustainable long‑term for Southside District.
For a considerable period of time, Southside has been operating an enhanced warden service, supported by additional agency staff. While this increased presence has been valuable to businesses across the area, the continued use of agency staffing is no longer affordable, and maintaining that enhanced level of cover is not financially viable in line with our income levels.
We understand that any reduction in visible service can be concerning, and we want to be clear and transparent about why this change is happening.
It's both a necessary and natural outcome of Southside District’s current financial position, and the crucial change has been made to ensure the BID remains both stable and financially viable during our BID4 term (2026-2031).
What this means for Southside businesses
· Southside will continue to have a dedicated warden service; made up of the team you all know and have built relationships with – Shelia, Tracey and Sully.
· The service is returning to a core level that can be reliably delivered within the financial constraints, and that matches the times where there is most need.
· Wardens will remain highly visible, approachable and focused on supporting businesses, visitors and partners.
· The wardens will continue to work closely with West Midlands Police, the City Council and other key stakeholders.

Southside District remains committed to delivering services that are robust, reliable and financially responsible. Whilst this change removes the enhanced provision, it ensures the warden service can remain in place, delivering at the times when they are most needed in the District, and is financially sustainable for the duration of the BID4 term (2026-2031).
The Southside District Board welcomes your ongoing feedback as the service provision continues and will be reviewing the current service hours in September 2026.
If you have questions or concerns about this change, please contact the Southside District team directly.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
