Southside isn’t called the cultural heart of Birmingham without reason. Food to satisfy every craving, cultural masterpieces, home of the LGBT community, big nights out, proper belly laughs, independents like no other. And behind the scenes of these unique and vibrant businesses is the dedicated Southside Business District; there to support in good times and bad.

If you are passionate about Southside and how our unique part of the city centre can develop and grow we want to hear from you.  Let us know how you can bring your skills to our Board and play an active role in shaping the work of Southside Business District over the next five years.

We are currently seeking Directors with a broad range of skills and experience.  Whilst we are keen to hear from people with experience in finance, marketing and HR, applications from any industry are welcomed.

Southside Business District is the Business Improvement District (BID) that represents Chinatown and the Gay Village.  Home to institutions like Birmingham Hippodrome and the Glee Club, alongside bustling hotels and a growing office sector, we are a vibrant, diverse community and a beacon of culture in Birmingham City Centre.

Following endorsement from our business community, we have recently secured a fourth five-year term.  From now until 2031, we will be focusing on the following strategic goals:

  •  Business and Growth – driving initiatives to support our diverse business community.

  • Culture and Events – Supporting major events and raising the profile of venues in Southside

  • Safer Southside – continuing to deliver our dedicated Warden service and working with partners to keep Southside safe

  • Cleaner and Greener – maintaining our District’s appearance through additional cleaning and graffiti removal services.

We are recruiting for new voluntary Board Directors who can give strategic leadership to our work and ensure all of our diverse community is represented.  If you work for a Southside Business District levy paying business and are looking to influence and impact activities outside of your day job, this is the opportunity for you.

Southside District is keen for its Board to reflect our District’s diversity and seeks applications irrespective of age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, faith or disability.  If you are interested, please email steve.ball@southsidedistrict.co.uk.  You will need to complete a short expression of interest form by 4.00 pm on 20 February 2026 before receiving the recruitment pack.  The closing date for you to return the application pack is 4.00 pm on 13 March 2026.  Interviews will be held on 23 March 2026.  Successful candidates will need to be available to attend a Board Meeting at 2.00 pm on 13 April 2026.

Please note, you must work for, and be based at an organisation that pays a levy to Southside District in order to be eligible to apply.
